The state of independent education in Ontario
Ontario is one of the only Canadian provinces that doesn’t recognize and meet the needs of independent school students through some level of funding . Catholic schools are funded 100% in Ontario, while all other independent schools receive zero funding.
The case for independent schools
Approximately 150,000 students in Ontario attend independent schools that serve differing educational philosophies and values, faiths, unique learning styles and special needs. These schools receive no provincial funding, and parents are left to pay school tuition in addition to fulfilling their obligation to contribute to funding public education.
